About this clay

What is JOVI Air Dry Clay?

JOVI Air Dry Clay is a water-based modelling paste with a fresh, pleasant touch — supplied wet and ready to use, very easy to mould the moment the pack is opened. It dries at room temperature in around 24 hours (longer for thicker pieces — up to 48–72 hours), so finished work can be made anywhere a Malaysian home or classroom has shelf space. No oven, no kiln, no firing schedule. The finish is fine and smooth, and accepts every common water-based decoration: poster paint, acrylic, watercolour, gouache, or marker — sealed with PVA or matte varnish for pieces that will be handled.

The paste is made in Spain by JOVI from natural ingredients, is non-toxic and odourless, gluten-free, and free of major allergens. It carries CE marking and EN71 certification — the European Toy Safety Standard — which is why it is used across primary classrooms in Spain and recommended by 90% of Spanish teachers. The 250 g pack is sized for a single project or first try; the 500 g pack is the everyday size used in Malaysian schools; the 1 kg pack is the value option for large sculptures, classroom bulk, or stockist resale. Once opened, reseal the pack tightly or wrap in cling film and store in an airtight container in a cool dry place — it keeps for several months and can be re-conditioned with a few drops of water if it stiffens.

JOVI Air Dry Clay (Malay: tanah liat kering udara) works equally well for hand-building, slab work, coil pots, drape moulds, relief plaques, ornaments, jewellery, miniature dioramas, and primary-school PSV (Pendidikan Seni Visual) projects under the KSSR syllabus. It bonds cleanly to wood, cardboard, plastic, glass and metal, so you can use it as a coating over an inner armature for larger forms. Distributed in Malaysia exclusively by JM Brands Sdn Bhd from a Shah Alam warehouse — free delivery above RM80 within Peninsular Malaysia.

How to use

Six steps from pack to finished piece

  1. 1

    Open & Knead

Open the pack and knead a fist-sized lump for 30–60 seconds until the air dry clay is soft, even and slightly warm. Work on a non-stick surface — silicone mat, baking paper or a smooth tile.

  2. 2

    Sculpt or Mould

Build by hand, roll into slabs and cut shapes, or press into silicone moulds. For larger forms, bulk out the inside with foil so the wall thickness stays even.

  3. 3

    Add Detail

Use modelling tools, the back of a paintbrush or a toothpick to score lines, press textures and add fine detail. Smooth seams with a damp finger.

  4. 4

    Air-dry 24h

Leave the work uncovered on a flat surface at room temperature. Thin pieces cure in 24 hours; thicker pieces 48–72. Avoid direct sun, fans or air-con vents.

  5. 5

    Paint

Once fully dry the surface takes acrylic, watercolour, gouache or poster paint cleanly. For terracotta and grey clays, sand lightly with fine sandpaper first.

  6. 6

    Seal

For pieces that will be handled — ring dishes, planters, ornaments — finish with a clear acrylic varnish in matte or gloss. Adds light water resistance.

Frequently asked

JOVI Air Dry Clay Stone Grey — FAQ

How long does JOVI Air Dry Clay Stone Grey take to dry?

Thin pieces under 5 mm cure in about 24 hours at room temperature. Thicker pieces 15–25 mm need 48–72 hours. Leave uncovered on a flat surface, away from direct sun and air-con vents.

Can I paint JOVI Air Dry Clay Stone Grey after it dries?

Yes — once fully cured, acrylic, watercolour, gouache, tempera or poster paint all work. Finish with a clear acrylic varnish in matte or gloss to protect the surface.

How do I store unused JOVI Air Dry Clay?

Reseal tightly in its original bag, wrap in cling film, and store in an airtight container in a cool dry place. If it stiffens slightly, knead in a few drops of water to restore the texture.

What is the difference between air dry clay and plastilina?

Air dry clay (tanah liat kering udara) hardens permanently in 24–72 hours and is for finished pieces. Plastilina never dries — it stays soft forever for reusable practice and play.

How long does shipping take in Malaysia?

Peninsular Malaysia 2–4 working days via J&T or Ninja Van; East Malaysia 4–7 working days. Free delivery on Peninsular orders above RM80.
